Job Overview:
Little Birdy is partnering with a growing construction consultancy to find an experienced Quantity Surveyor. The ideal candidate will have commercial construction experience, and be a strong communicator. In this role, you will be responsible for managing all cost-related aspects of a project, from initial cost estimations to final project delivery. You’ll work closely with project managers, contractors, and clients to ensure the commercial success of the projects and maintain high standards of quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare accurate cost estimates, budgets, and feasibility studies for commercial construction projects.
- Manage and track project costs, identifying and mitigating any potential cost overruns or risks.
- Conduct value engineering and cost analysis to optimize project costs without compromising quality.
- Oversee contract administration, including tendering, procurement, and negotiations with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Prepare and review detailed reports on project financials, including cost forecasts, cash flow, and financial risk assessments.
- Monitor project progress and ensure that financial aspects are aligned with the project schedule.
- Collaborate with project teams to resolve any issues related to cost discrepancies, change orders, and client concerns.
- Ensure all work complies with legal, regulatory, and industry standards.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior quantity surveyors and other team members as needed.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and vendors to foster collaboration and project success.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in quantity surveying, with a strong emphasis on commercial construction projects.
- In-depth knowledge of cost estimating, budgeting, contract administration, and project financials.
- Experience with commercial contracts and procurement processes.
- Strong understanding of construction industry standards, regulations, and compliance.
- Proficient in quantity surveying software (e.g., Bluebeam, Procore, CostX) and MS Office Suite.
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to manage client and contractor relationships effectively.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
- US-based candidates with the legal right to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional certification (e.g., MRICS, RICS, AACE) is a plus.
- Experience in large-scale commercial projects (e.g., office buildings, retail spaces, mixed-use developments).
- Knowledge of local construction law and dispute resolution.
